Twelve full solo albums in one year
And it doesn’t stop there. All songs are improvised, written and composed as they are performed. Further, no post-editing is allowed in the dogma-style rules he has laid out for himself. That, according to the man behind, Magnus Fuhr, gives a more honest and naked expression, which is absolutely true in any sense. Another, and on a certain level more interesting, point is the absoluteness of the lyrics. Judge for yourself (translations from Danish):
To be doing the dishes
To feel lucky?
MagnusFuhr: Spækbrædt, blomst, fugl
I have learned
That there’s a difference between man and machine
It really hurts me
When you’re telling me
That I remind you of a sewing machine
Martin Fuhr: Jeg har det svært med gamle mænd
Here’s his own explanation
This website contains a musical experiment. In 2003, I felt a need to challenge myself artistically and set up a set of rules for how I allow myself to create music. The rules dictate that all lyrics, music and compositions are to be improvised and may not undergo any kind of post production. The result is a more honest and naked expression. All tracks will be available on this website for anyone to download for free. I will be recording 12 CD’s during 2004, one per month. It would be fantastic if other musicians would join in, enabling us to build a fun and challenging musical universe. If you’re interested or have any questions, mail me at lord_fuhr@hotmail.com
While I’m not a huge fan of the particular style of Martin Fuhr, I think the idea is great – for solo artists as well as bands. Let me know if you participate or know of a similar project.
