“Look mom”, Flash 8 to end touch interfaces?

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

In his endless quest to convince me that Flash is better than food, sleep and slow sunset walks by any pier, Tony is spamming me with the wonders of the new Flash 8. Sure, it has realtime motion blur and shadows, but the coolest thing? You’re can interact with objects in the Flash movie using nothing but thin air (or thick, depending on your altitude). No touching, just webcam.

I’ve used it LIVE with Camera object and my webcam, and have built a simple “air piano” that works like a charm. protozoo

Install Flash 8 public beta plug-in (you may not be able to use Firefox)

More motion blur

Live blend modes

An interactive piano (for webcam)

Blow into your microphone to pop soap bobbles

Drag light source, see realtime drop-shadow

Star your own retro music video

Quicktime: Realtime interaction with virtual living room snow

More motion blur

A heavy competition to Sony’s eyeToy (example here (quicktime), and, hopefully, full websites with Minority Report interface.

Google Desktop2: Press ctrl-alt-g to get to the deskbar search thing

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

I looked, but didn’t find the keyboard shortcut to focus Google Desktop’s deskbar. It’s on the keyboard, not the help site.

Designers are told to shut up twice as much as coders

Monday, August 22nd, 2005
Googlefight

“Shut up and color”: 1,420 hits

“Shut up and code”: 544 hits

There.

Designer says:

Shut up and color wins Googlefight over ‘code’.

Coder says:

Of course, you bitch more.

Designer says:

It’s because our work is more important.

Coder says:

No. It’s because we actually get our things done.

Designer says:

Shut up and code.
