A few seconds after I put up the widget I heard a sound. The sound of Mr. Angermann.

My expectations
My brains given the two clues of

• a widget for weblogs and sites and
• a company that makes web clients for msn,

I thought “of course”, and then registered for what I thought was an HTML widget that I could chain to my MSN account, then get my visitor’s feedback right there through a Meebo buddy bot.

The conversation, should we want it to, would be logged and filed right next to the comments. And, should there be any, annoying messages could be stopped by a simple command interface to the Meebo buddy bot. Or simply blocking.

Instead, it seems, Meebo stay true to their “web-enabling instant messaging” strategy, and yet seemingly walk along the paths of Konfabulator, Apple’s Dashboard, the new Opera browser, and create a widget platform.

The only thing that has happened to comments since 2001 is trackback. And I’m not even sure I know exactly what it is. Here’s one that stands on the shoulders of instant messaging’s critical mass.
